2011-2012 St. John Bosco Co-op:

This co-op is designed primarily for students in 7-12 grades.  The term "co-op" is short for "co-operative." This means that any family which uses the co-op is expected to contribute to the co-op. Contributions are more than teachers' fees and can take various forms including (but not limited to) weekly clean-up or class monitor/teacher assistant. We attempt to maintain flexibility due to parents' work demands. Please plan to actively participate when asked!

Calendar:

Co-op will begin on Friday, Sept. 9, 2011 and continue until May 25, 2012.

There will be no co-op on Nov. 25, Dec. 23, Dec. 30, and April 6.

If there are two or more snow days within the school year (requiring the cancellation of at least 2 co-op weeks), co-op will be extended until Friday, June 1, 2012. Any decision to extend the school year to June 1 will be made by the end of March, 2012.

SJB Co-op Guidelines:

The St. John Bosco weekly co-op will be held each Friday in the school at All Souls Parish, 2543 Hood (on the corner of Hood and Tennyson Ave.), Overland, MO 63114. We will be using classrooms located on the second and third floors. These classrooms are not air conditioned, nor are they easily accessible for those with physical restrictions. Noontime prayers will be prayed in the parish church, across the street from the school building. There are no facilities for PE.

Co-op Fees:

$100/year. Each family will also be assigned a small job at the Co-op. Families unable to fullfill the assigned responsibility may opt out for an additional $100/year. Assignments will be discussed at the mandatory parents' meeting on Wednesday, August 31 at 10 am in the cafeteria of All Souls' school. There will be a used textbook sale/exchange from 9:30-10:00 and then the meeting from 10 until we are finished. The textbook sale can continue after the meeting. Family co-op fees are due at that time.

Some courses have additional fees. Course-related fees are to be paid on the first Friday of each month. After attending the first class you are committed to paying for the first semester whether or not you continue in the class. You have the option to drop a class at the semester break at the end of January.

Hold Harmless Agreement:

Each family participating in the St. John Bosco Co-op will be required to sign a Hold Harmless Agreement prior to the start of classes. This is required to use the facilities and is not optional. A copy of the agreement is available upon request from Mimi McDonough or Kathy Harkins.

Class Participation:

Students who routinely show up without their completed assignments will be asked to leave. Co-op courses are intended to be supplemental to your homeschool curricula. Parents should supervise their children's assignments and monitor their progress throughout the year. It is the parents responsibility to confer with their student's instructors as needed.

No Unsupervised Children:

All students must always be supervised by an adult. Absolutely no drop offs for K - 6th graders. Moms must remain with their children.

Study Hall:

All children not in a class will be in supervised study halls. Your child should have independent work to do and understand the need for quiet.
