This co-op is designed primarily for students in 7-12 grades. The term "co-op" is short for "co-operative." This means that any family which uses the co-op is expected to contribute to the co-op. Contributions are more than teachers' fees and can take various forms including (but not limited to) weekly clean-up or class monitor/teacher assistant. We attempt to maintain flexibility due to parents' work demands. Please plan to actively participate when asked!
The mandatory parents' meeting is scheduled for 9:30 am, Friday, August 27, 2010 in a classroom at All Souls School building. At least one parent from each family is strongly encouraged to attend this meeting. Nursing babies are welcome but other children may be a distraction during the meeting. The co-op fee of $100 will be collected at this meeting and Hold Harmless Agreements will be distributed. A complete tour of the facilities will be conducted after the meeting.

Mike Bardot -- 9th - 12th grade
Texts: Henley's Latin Year 1 and Henley's Latin Grammar. The goal of this course is to finish instruction of Latin Grammar I. Because Latin is a fairly complex language and first year grammar is quite comprehensive, reserving only a few complex forms for the second year, I have found that it is best to plan on a full two years to go over the First Year Grammar, enabling students to become very proficient in the language and its forms. As a result, this second year completes the partner course of Latin Grammar 1. The benefits of Latin are various including: first, it provides its students a firmer grasp of English in that it forces a student to identitfy similar structures and principles. Secondly, it provides an enormous boost in the student's vocabulary in English, for Latin roots comprise at least 40% of the English language – a skill that will benefit students in the arena of standardized testing such as the SAT and ACT tests as well as in higher learning arenas. Lastly, learning any foreign language enables students to learn subsequent foriegn languages more easily and efficiently. Since Latin is the root for the Romance languages, this is especially true in the cases of Spanish, French, and Italian. Because of the nature of learning a language, Latin II will entail a good amount of homework which should be spaced out evenly over consistent days of the week. This enables the student to keep the grammar fresh and forces daily practice of forms. The grades will consist of tests, homework performance, and participation in class. By the end of the class, students should be proficient in the Latin, being able to translate most texts, needing only supplemental vocabulary.
Fee: $8/family for 1st child/class -- $5 each additional child/class -- 4 or more classes/family, $5 /class.
