Choir - Junior -- Brende
K-8th grade

Will focus on mastering and memorizing a wide gamut of folk, rounds, chant, and hymns, with hopes to provide a "ready-to-sing" repertoire of music for sundry occasions (the natural alternative to "canned" music). Some attention to learning notes, intervals, sight singing, and perhaps "collaborative composition" of a song. Intended to complement, but not necessarily replace, a more rigorous knowledge of music theory as can be had, say, in a systematic piano lesson course book.

FEE: $20/month/family no matter how long the month

Choir - Senior -- Brende
9th-12th grade

Will try to master a few (2-3) pieces of high-quality part-music per semester. The emphasis, here, will be on intonation, blend, phrasing, and musicality. Curriculum will depend on class enrollment and range of voices in attendance. Previous classes have learned Mozart, Arcadelt, Cesar Frank, and more. (Teacher's speciality is piano performance, but has life-long experience and love of choral music).

FEE: $20/month/family no matter how long the month

Drama - Junior -- Cobb
ages 11 - 15 (age as of as of Sept. 1)

We are unsure of what venue of drama we will explore during the 2008-09 academic year at this time. The performance dates will tentatively be in mid April. Participants are required to be at Friday practices and at any additional practices the week prior to the performances. Parental participation is vital.

Fee: $35/child, $60/family (possible additional nominal costs as production gets underway)

Drama - Senior -- Gass
ages 15 - 18

The 2008 performance will occur sometime in late April or early May. Aside from acting, all students will also be required to participate in the other aspects of the production such as set design, props, lighting, costumes, makeup, music, after performance reception, cast party, and publicity. Practice will start at the first day of co-op. Participants are required to attend all Friday practices and plan for a week of intense practice the days leading up to the performance. Also, lead characters may be required to attend additional practices times on other days other than co-op.

FEE: to be determined

Essay Writing -- Brende

French in Action -- Marrs

The introduction to the French in Action remarks : « Even a one-way ticket to Paris cannot guarantee fluency in French. Language is difficult to teach and equally difficult to learn. » The introduction goes on to explain that both the structural, logical approach and immersion approach are necessary for language acquisition ; the course attempts to illustrate French culture (not just literature, art, etc., but the ways of life in France) in the DVDs and textbook, and to relate the learning experience to what the student sees in these preliminary materials. A workbook and CDs build on the material introduced in class and are used both in class and for homework.
Materials :
French in Action textbook & workbook - $75.00 for both (lessons 1-26) will suffice for the first 2 to 2-1/2 years. Blank CD’s for copying, or ipod or other listening device.
